Irregular periods: start with a simple diary
Track changes without assuming every late period is PCOS.

Record the first day
Mark the first day of each period, how long bleeding lasts and any pain or unexpected bleeding. Add relevant changes such as stress, contraception or a substantial weight change. A paper calendar is enough. The aim is to describe what has changed from your usual pattern.
Keep an open mind about the cause
Cycles may change with puberty, pregnancy, perimenopause, stress, thyroid problems or PCOS. If pregnancy is possible, consider a pregnancy test rather than relying on an app prediction. Discuss a new or persistent pattern with your clinician, especially if you also have other symptoms or difficulty conceiving.
